Smudge Sticks - Native American
Native Americans use sage to purify the mind, body and spirit. Sage helps to purify the atmosphere by dispersing negative energy. Some use the herb to purify their homes, office and cars as well as carrying a small amount of sage around with them to ensure spiritual safety.
This herb is considered sacred by the Native Americans who have used the wands or loose herbs for generations in the smudging ceremony. The smell of sage will remind you of the desert and the sacredness of life. The smoke is soothing, refreshing and relaxing, dispersing negative ions to clear your home of stuck energy.
To burn a sage stick – just place in a heat proof container partly filled with sand or salt placed so it can hold the smudge stick upright. Remove the yarn, light the tip of the sage and blow out so the smoke is directed around you or your space. You can also use a smudging feather to direct the sage smoke around a room or your hand. When you have finished smudging extinguish the smudge stick into the salt or sand to smother it. Never leave the smudge stick alight and unattended.
